Metro Tiles
Metro tiles have seen a resurgence in popularity over recent years and due to their classic, timeless appeal they look like they are here to stay.
Sometimes called Subway tiles, they are rectangular shaped tiles inspired by those used on the London Underground or New York Metro. They come in various sizes but the most popular are 20 x 10 cm or 15 x 7.5 cm. Of course they don’t have to be laid brick style, you can have fun with patterns like herringbone or a basket weave, or lay them vertically or diagonally for a super cool up-up-to-the-minute look.
To Bevel or not to Bevel
Metro tiles often come with a bevel edge to create a brick-like effect.
This is a very popular look in modern urban kitchens and bathrooms, while a flat tile looks great in more traditional rooms. Gloss or matt, these retro metros will make any space look ultra modern and right on trend.
Adding Colour with Metros
White is probably the most common colour for metro tiles as in the Underground itself, as they offer a clean, fresh look. However, there are many colours to choose from, such as pretty pastel shades of sage, grey and cream to bright reds, greens and blues.
Alternatively you can add your splash of colour to your white tiles by finishing the look with a darker grout, such as grey, black or even bright pink! This looks great in urban schemes for an industrial chic feel.
Go Glam with your Metros
And if you want to achieve the wow factor with your metros why not exude some glamour with gleaming metallics which will add a touch of pizazz to any bathroom or kitchen.
